My Father used to work at the premises when it was Sharps Ship
Chandlers, the previous owners of the building prior to the
Pub.
Apparently there is a tunnel that
leads out of the Pub, under Whitefriargate to Holy Trinity Church.
My Father actually went down the tunnel, it is passable, but soon
returned on finding human remains scattered around , I presume
from the graveyard. The tunnel was known to all who worked there.
It apparently was used as a dart hole for
drinkers to refuge in the church when press gang crews where
around.
My Father who now lives in Cornwall
visited the Pub to reminisce state's the door to the tunnel is
still there but is covered by an iron gate. None of the Bar staff
knew what lay behind the door.
